What is it with me and things with about a billion scales?
This is what happens when I try to draw sexy women. I started sketching with the intention of drawing a nice slinky mermaid. I was liking how the tail was coiling around the rock, so I decided to run with the idea, perhaps making a mermaid with an eel-like lower body instead. And then... a snake appeared instead. This is probably for the best, as I'd just recently done a nice oceanic picture... and I am sincerely in love with the desert.
Her body is patterned off of a western diamondback rattlesnake, one of our local species. I don't have a particular story to go with her - she really was one of those creatures that simply sprung to life as I drew. I love it when that happens!
The painting process for this artwork can be seen here, if you're interested:
Edit: YAY! Thank you so much for the DD - that's pretty awesome to wake up to! Heh... getting a few more comments than usual. I'll start answering when I get home from work.
Here's some of my other fantasy work you may enjoy:
Desert Queen by *Nightlyre has such an astounding array of detail you'll be sitting here looking at this piece for a while! Well done! (

lol, that's how just about everything I draw is created. I usually don't like snake people like this, but this has to be an exception. You somehow did the whole human-face-with-snake-skin thing while making it look very natural (only one so far) so I feel it adds to it. You've added arms to a snake body and, just like before, made it completely natural (seen others before, but they're rare) this along with the perspective, attire, and gentle lighting makes this a piece to remember.
This is amazingly beautiful! I can certainly understand your need to let go of the comic, though I shall miss it --I really want to know what happens to those people with whom I've become invested! That said I agree with and respect your decision, since this is the kind of work you are doing. The kind of work that apparently you were born to do.
I started reading your comic because of your gorgeous dragons, but I'm really happy to know I can find even better ones here.
Thanks for having the courage to say "No" to the things that prevent you from saying "Yes" to even better things. I wish you the best and will keep a lookout for your work here. ~ Jande. (@eO_Jande on twitter)
Thank you, and I appreciate your understanding. The story and the characters are certainly still in my and my husbands' heads, and I believe we'll find the proper way to tell their story. In the meantime, I'm glad you're enjoying the art here! There's always more to come.
