Pogo the SpiderGoyle by Nightlyre Pogo the SpiderGoyle by Nightlyre
Pogo is not one for the arachnophobes! I adore spiders, but most especially salticidae - jumping spiders, which Pogo here is based on. They're characterized by two huge eyes (though they have six more) and have some of the best eyesight among invertebrates. They have to, because, like their name implies, they are amazing jumpers! They are also active hunters, not the kind of spider that sits around a web waiting for prey to come to it. Heh, can you tell I'm more than a little fascinated by these guys?

In any case, Pogo herself is polymer clay sculpture, on the largish side for one of my 'goyles. Her legs are reinforced with a wire structure inside - had to be, so she could stand up. Like the other 'goyles, she's made from a type of clay with specks of color that make it resemble stone, textured, and then enhanced with acrylic paints.

Pogo is sold, but there are many other whimsical fantasy critters over in my Etsy store! www.etsy.com/shop/RedNebulaStu…

I love jumping spiders. But even so, it takes talent to make them cute!

Hehe... is it wrong that I find them cute anyway? Those lovely big eyes! And their extremely silly habit of jumping on anything that moves, regardless of it being about 5,000 times their size...

I love them! I was originally going to make the spidergoyle a tarantula, but then I realized there was nothing salticidae-related in my gallery. This had to be rectified!

Very realistic looking; especially the legs and underneath. You put an amazing amount of detail in your sculptures!

Hehe... hmm. Wait. Has no one made a horror movie about flying spiders yet? I... don't think it's been done. Why has this not been done? Hollywood, I am now disappointed.

Well, they can jump and they can hang from the ceiling, so i guess it would be like a creepiness overkill. But what about a cockroach/spider cross? Most women's worst nightmare!
